Embrocation

em·bro·ca·tion /ˌembrəˈkāSH(ə)n/

noun a compound used for rubbing on the body to relieve pain from sprains and strains. Embro redirects blood back into your lower extremities by stimulating blood vessels in your legs, letting you ride in relative comfort.

——————–

It’s believed Belgian cyclists were the first humans to smear warming chemicals on their legs to compete in cold weather, but horse owners have been using embrocation on their stallions for well over a century.

Our proprietary blend of all-natural ingredients, including capsicum, beeswax, grapeseed oil and boswellia in designed for pre-activity as well as post-activity. It is safe for competitive sports, as are all of our products. Unlike other leading brands, our Qwick Embro cream will NOT stain your cycling gear… not even white socks! Our Embro should be one of the last things you put on after kitting up (so you don’t accidentally rub it off) and remember that a little goes a long way!

What is Boswellia, and what does it do?
Boswellia serrata, also known as Indian Frankincense, is a branching tree found in dry, mountainous regions like India, Northern Africa, and the Middle East. It has been prized for centuries for its health benefits. Boswellia serrata is most well-known for its anti-inflammatory properties. It also helps with memory and mental focus and supporting a healthy mood. Additionally, Boswellia serrata supports the digestive system, promotes joint health, fortifies the immune system and helps relieve minor headache pain. The resin of the Boswellia species has been used as incense in religious and cultural ceremonies and in medicines since time immemorial.

What is capsicum?
Capsicum annuum is a species of the plant genus Capsicum native to southern North America, the Caribbean, and northern South America. Most people know these as peppers, and we use cayenne for it’s effectiveness and ranking on the Scoville scale (heat index) of 30,000 – 50,000. The fruit of the capsicum plant contains a chemical called capsaicin.

As with all of our products, we ask you to not just take our word for it, look at the independent studies, which you will find below.

Topical creams with capsaicin are used to treat pain from a wide range of chronic conditions including neuropathic pain. Following application to the skin capsaicin causes enhanced sensitivity to noxious stimuli, followed by a period with reduced sensitivity and, after repeated applications, persistent desensitisation. (Derry S, Moore RA. Topical capsaicin (low concentration) for chronic neuropathic pain in adults. Cochrane Database Syst Rev. 2012;2012(9):CD010111. Published 2012 Sep 12. doi:10.1002/14651858.CD010111)

Topical capsaicin formulations are used for pain management. Safety and modest efficacy of low-concentration capsaicin formulations, which require repeated daily self-administration, are supported by meta-analyses of numerous studies. Evidence suggests that the utility of topical capsaicin may extend beyond painful peripheral neuropathies. (Anand P, Bley K. Topical capsaicin for pain management: therapeutic potential and mechanisms of action of the new high-concentration capsaicin 8% patch. Br J Anaesth. 2011;107(4):490-502. doi:10.1093/bja/aer260)

Boswellic acids are the main well-known active components of the resin of Boswellia carteri (Burseraceae) and these are still dealing with the ethnomedicinal use for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis and other inflammatory diseases. (Banno N, Akihisa T, Yasukawa K, Tokuda H, Tabata K, Nakamura Y, Nishimura R, Kimura Y, Suzuki T. Anti-inflammatory activities of the triterpene acids from the resin of Boswellia carteri. J Ethnopharmacol. 2006 Sep 19;107(2):249-53. doi: 10.1016/j.jep.2006.03.006. Epub 2006 Mar 17. PMID: 16621377.)
